Jay Z just announced to the public (March 30th) a new music streaming app that will give fans access to high quality audio, exclusive content, videos, b-roll, ticketing and more. Kanye West, Coldplay, Madonna, Nicki Minaj and of course Beyoncé also chimed in on Twitter to the make the awareness that much bigger. All sounds good but fans might not be too pleased with the price. HipHopWired Reports: The wait is finally over. Jay Z’s high-definition music service streaming service TIDAL is officially here, as confirmed via a live streamed announcement by the bossman in the flesh. Earlier today, a promo clip showing Hova having a power meeting with fellow musicians in a very Justice League-esque fashion hit the Internets. At the same time, supporting artists like Beyoncé, Kanye West, Daft Punk and more tweeted the #TIDALforALL hashtag.
Reunited for the baby's sake Wiz & Amber are squashing beef. Via HipHopWired: Wiz Khalifa and Amber Rose are putting an end to their ugly custody war over their son, Sebastian. The former couple agreed to co-parent thanks to the Pittsburgh rapper pleading his case on a new song. Reports TMZ: You’ll recall Amber and Wiz were at each other’s throats, each calling the other a horrible parent and unfit to care for their 2-year-old son Sebastian. But a song changed Amber’s tune. She heard Wiz’s new song, “See You Again,” which appears on the “Furious 7” soundtrack. We’re told here’s what got to her: How could we not talk about family when family’s all that we got? Everything I went through you were standing there by my side And now you gonna be with me for the last ride. Our sources say Wiz asked Amber to listen to the song, and after she heard it she tearfully called him back and they agreed to work as parents to care for Sebastian.

The legendary Lauryn Hill is officially going down in history! Official sources reveal that each year the Library of Congress selects 25 recordings to add to its archive. This year Lauryn Hill’s record-breaking album, The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill, will be included in the 25. According to the Library of Congress press release, among requirements for inclusion in the archive are that the recordings be “culturally, historically or aesthetically significant” and be at least 10 years old. The Library of Congress gave a lengthy explanation as to why it chose Hill’s debut album:
Lauryn Hill’s debut solo record, following the breakup of the Fugees, is a work of honesty in which Hill explores her feelings on topics that included the deep wonder of pregnancy, the pitfalls of modern relationships and the experience of the
sacred. The album effortlessly fuses soul, rhythm and blues, rap and reggae. Hill’s vocal range, smooth clear highs and vibrato are stunning. The rapping is rhythmically compelling while always retaining, and frequently exploiting, the natural cadences of conversational speech. Standout guest performances include Carlos Santana’s soulful acoustic guitar solo on “Zion,” and duets with Mary J. Blige and D’Angelo on “I Used to Love Him” and “Nothing Even Matters,” respectively.
Hill’s album joins an eclectic list, which includes Ben E. King’s “Stand by Me,” Sly and the Family Stone’s Stand album and even a Sesame Street platinum-hits album.

Sometimes we all feel that someone from our past is speaking to us. That is just what super producer Timberland revealed at SXSW. Via HipHopWired: Female rappers tend to come and go these but many critics agree that Tink seems to have something special going for her. Timbaland obviously believes this and at a recent appearance at The Fader Fort during SXSW 2015, he delved into the spiritual realm and claimed that the late, great Aaliyah spoke to him in a dream and told him he was doing the right thing by championing the Chicago breakout starlet. “I don’t touch [Baby Girl’s] record–y’all know that’s Aaliyah,” the production wizard told the crowd as Tink caught her breath. “I was riding home one day; sleep. [She] spoke to me in my sleep and told, ‘She’s the one.” Although the statement may seem like a dubitable attempt to capitalize off Tink’s buzz, Timbo the King has remained incredibly loyal to Aaliyah’s legacy, as she was more than just his artist. In other words, he’s not using her name in vain. Peep Timbaland’s Tink PSA down below.

PBS aired a conversation between Tavis Smiley and J. Cole on Tuesday night (March 17). While discussing his penchant for story telling and emceeing, the rapper spoke candidly about his college career, broke down the inspiration behind “Love Yourz” from his 2014 Forest Hills Drive album, and more. Cole admittedly says that the aforementioned track encapsulates the theme of the entire project. “That sums up the entire album and just what I’ve learned in my career. Thats what this entire album is about,” he said. Like in previous interviews, Cole explained how greatness, fame, and accolades were his goals when entering the music industry. When he attained those things, there was still a void. In that, he learned what life was truly about, and thus, “Love Yourz” was born. This just in that Hip-Hop icon Russell Simmons is about to shake things up on television by bringing a few new shows to the scene. To help with this project he has teamed up with WorldStar Hip Hop creator. Interesting right?! HipHopWired Reports: Russell Simmons is an icon in Hip-Hop circles, but this will certainly elicit side-eyes. Uncle Rush is teaming with Worldstar Hip Hop to develop projects for television. Reports the Hollywood Reporter:
Russell Simmons‘ All Def Digital has formed an exclusive partnership with online video site World Star Hip Hop to develop projects for television, the companies announced Thursday.
Under the new partnership, the two companies will provide resources toward the development of new television programming for cable and subscription services and music programming for cable and broadcast.
The pact builds on a preexisting relationship between ADD and World Star Hip Hop that includes a feature film currently in development with Paramount Pictures through Def Pictures. The companies have also teamed up on comedy series World Star Headquarters that will premiere on ADD’s YouTube channel and on the World Star Hip Hop website.
Worldstar has delved into content with substance—for example, they dropped a good doc on violence in Chicago. However, the site is still most recognizable, and profits off of, some of the basest, stereotypical and lowest common denominator of content, usually fights in the hood. Coon Fight TV on the way? Sorry, couldn't resist.
